The captain gives a short briefing before leaving the dock: where the safety gear is, how the boat works, what the crew does and what we ask of guests. In this sample, guests also sign a waiver at check-in; a real operator sets its own.

It depends on the trip and who is aboard. The crew tells you exactly what applies when they confirm, and the rules are posted at check-in. Ask the crew if you are unsure.

We cannot promise it. Fishing is not catching, which is why it is called fishing. The captain will put you in good water, explain what is happening, and help you make the most of it.

In this sample, rods, tackle, bait and instruction are provided and the captain explains the rules for any fish you catch. A real operator lists its own inclusions, and a person confirms yours.

Sunscreen, a hat with a strap, polarized sunglasses, non-marking shoes, a layer for early starts, water and snacks. Ask the crew about coolers.

Tell us in the request. A person will describe the gentler options, such as the inshore trips, and be honest about what a day aboard is like.

The captain's call, on the day. Wind, lightning and sea state can move or cancel a trip. If yours cannot go, the crew contacts you to talk through the options.

The boat's passenger limit and any age rules are posted at check-in. Put your numbers and ages in the request and a person will confirm what applies.
