Slack Tide paddles the Lake Worth Lagoon at West Palm Beach, with Peanut Island as the destination.

About the lagoon

The Lake Worth Lagoon is Palm Beach County’s largest estuary and spans 20 miles from North Palm Beach to Ocean Ridge. A sample paddle company on the lagoon in West Palm Beach can start a guest with a single hour on the water and still have plenty of those 20 miles left to talk about.

Ocean water enters the lagoon through 2 inlets and meets freshwater from the canals, so it changes daily with the tides and seasonally with the rainy season. That is why Slack Tide’s times follow the tide and a person confirms them.

Peanut Island was formed by dredging in 1918, the same work that created the Lake Worth Inlet and the Port of Palm Beach. It became Peanut Island Park after a 2005 renovation with camp sites, a pier and a man-made reef. The guided Peanut Island Paddle is built around it.

The Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway runs through the lagoon, and the county has managed over 50 restoration projects there since the late 1990s, adding back more than 250 acres of habitat. Your instructor can tell you what is going on in the water on the day. The chat drafts the request; a person confirms it.
