Warranty

What is covered, for how long, and what voids it.

Written plainly, because a warranty you cannot understand at the point of sale is a warranty you cannot use at the point of failure.

Labor

Our work

Repairs: one year on the labor. If the thing we repaired fails again in the same way inside twelve months, we come back and there is no charge for the visit or the time. If it fails in a different way we will tell you it is a different fault and show you the reading that says so.

Installations: two years on the labor on a complete system we installed, on top of whatever the manufacturer covers on the equipment.

Drain clearing: thirty days, on the same line, cleared the same way — with one honest exception below.

Parts

Manufacturer terms, passed through

Parts carry whatever the manufacturer gives them, and that varies: a run capacitor is typically a year, a compressor on a registered new system is commonly five or ten. We register new equipment for you at installation and put the registration confirmation in your paperwork, because unregistered equipment frequently drops to a much shorter term and nobody discovers this until the day they need it.

A manufacturer's parts warranty covers the part. It does not usually cover the labor to fit it, or refrigerant. Ours covers the labor for the period above.

The drain exception, said up front

If we run a camera and find the line is broken, bellied, root-invaded or cast iron that has scaled and channeled through the bottom, we will tell you that clearing it is temporary and roughly how temporary. If you choose the clearing anyway — which is often the right call — the thirty days does not apply to that line, and we will have said so in writing before we take the money. What we will not do is clear a failed line, take a warranty fee for it, and act surprised in five weeks.

What voids it

  • Somebody else working on the same system afterwards. Not a punishment — we cannot warrant a charge we did not set or a wire we did not land.
  • Running a system with no filter, or with a filter so restrictive it starves the coil. A one-inch pleated filter with a very high MERV rating in a system designed for low resistance is a real cause of failure, and we will tell you at the time.
  • Damage from a duct problem we measured and reported and you chose not to address. The static pressure number on your report is the record of that conversation.
  • Lightning, surge, flood and rodent damage, which are insurance events.

Refrigerant, specifically

If we weighed a charge in after a leak repair and the system is low again inside the warranty period, that is our problem and we come back and find it. We do not return with a jug and put the same amount back in. That was the argument the first time.

Questions about the terms?

Ask before the work, not after. The office will talk any of it through on the phone.
