What you get
The closest shave you will get, and the calmest forty minutes of your week
Dre does most of the shaves in the shop. He reads the grain first, then shaves with it, and only goes across where your skin can take it.
- Hot towel and pre-shave oil to soften the beard.
- Warm lather worked in with a brush.
- Straight razor, with the grain, then across; a cold towel and balm to finish.

How it goes
Recline and towel
The chair goes back and a hot towel goes on. Two or three minutes, no talking required.
Oil and lather
Pre-shave oil, then warm lather worked in with a brush against the grain to lift the hair.
Two passes
With the grain first. Across the grain second, only where your skin can take it.
Cold towel and balm
A cold towel to close things up and an unscented balm. No alcohol splash.
Ask for it by name
Before your first one
Three things that make the difference.
Skip shaving for two days
Two or three days of growth gives the razor something to take and is kinder to the skin.
Tell us about bumps
If you get razor bumps, we shave with the grain only. It is still closer than you will get at home.
The day before, not the day of
For a wedding or an interview, book the shave the day before so any redness has settled.
Questions
Hot-towel shaves: straight answers
Does a straight-razor shave hurt?
No. With a hot towel and a sharp new blade you feel the razor move, not pull. Tell the barber if anything stings and he will change the angle.
I get razor bumps. Can I still have a shave?
Yes. Tell us first: we shave with the grain only, skip the second pass, and finish with a cold towel. It still comes out closer than a cartridge razor.
Is the blade new every time?
Yes. A fresh single-use blade goes into the straight razor for every client, and the razor itself is disinfected between shaves.
How long before a wedding should I come in?
The day before is ideal. Any redness settles overnight and the shave still looks fresh in the photos.
