How short should my grass be cut?
It depends entirely on the species, and that is the whole point. St. Augustine wants 3.5 to 4 inches, Bahia 3 to 4, Zoysia 2 to 2.5, Bermuda lower. Cutting St. Augustine at two inches because it looks tidier scalps it — the runners burn and the weeds get the light. Your card carries the number we use.
Why is my lawn browning in patches?
Three different things look identical from the curb: chinch bugs (usually the hot dry strip near the drive), brown patch (rings, in cool wet weather), and drought stress from being cut too short. They need three different responses, which is why nothing gets sprayed before it is identified.
Should the clippings be bagged?
Usually not. Returned clippings put nitrogen back and hold moisture. Bagging is right when the lawn is diseased or the growth got away from us after a wet fortnight — and the card will say which happened.
Why did you not fertilize this month?
Many Florida counties restrict nitrogen and phosphorus through the rainy season, because what goes down runs into the water. During those months the work is cut height, irrigation and spot weed control, and your card will say so rather than going quiet.
Can you top my tree so it stops growing over the house?
We will not, and here is why: topping forces weakly attached regrowth from below the cut, so in a few years there is more weight, held on worse, higher up. Proper reduction and thinning cuts get you a smaller, safer canopy. If it needs a licensed arborist we will tell you.
How often should the irrigation run?
Deep and infrequent beats daily and shallow, because roots follow water down. A lawn watered ten minutes every morning has roots in the top inch of soil. We set the controller by season and write the run times on the card.
My new sod died. Was it bad sod?
Almost never. Sod fails in the fortnight after it is laid, from watering or from being laid on ground that was not prepared. That is why the schedule goes on your card day by day.
Do you need a contract?
No, and no cancellation fee. Stop any week. A company that needs a twelve-month lock to keep you is telling you something.
Do you do hardscape — pavers, walls, steps?
No. It is a different trade with different equipment and different licensing, and we would rather send it to somebody who does it every day than learn on your patio.
