A bucket test separates evaporation from loss. In a Florida summer a pool can drop a quarter of an inch a day with nothing wrong with it. We run the test before we quote the search.
Then, find it without digging
Dye at the suspected structure, pressure tests on each line isolated, and acoustic listening on the pressure side. A line is condemned because it failed a pressure test, not because it was convenient.
