Rebuild kits exist for a reason
A diverter valve that will not turn or that leaks past is a seal and a spring. The body is fine. Replacing the whole valve means cutting pipe, and cutting pipe means the next repair is harder.
Actuators and automation
A valve that no longer moves on its own is usually the actuator, not the valve. They come apart, and the failure is visible.
When we do cut
Old, brittle or sun-baked PVC gets replaced properly with unions added, so the next repair on that pad does not need a saw.
