How to read a handyman’s reviews

  • Look for the job, not the adjectives. “Rehung the sagging gate and fixed the latch” was written by somebody who was there. “Great service” could be about anyone.
  • Read the three-star ones. They tell you what happens when a job turns out bigger than it looked.
  • Watch for fans and faucets in a handyman’s gallery. In Florida those are licensed trades. A business proud of taking them isn’t telling you something.
  • Check that the price matched. The review worth trusting says the number at the end was the number written down at the start.
