Pickets, a rail between posts, a gate that drags, and the pressure-treated boards you walk on. Posts, joists and stairs are the parts that hold it up, and they go to a licensed contractor.
Florida sun and rain are hard on wood. Pickets split, rails loosen, and a gate that latched in March drags on the ground by August because its hinge side has dropped. We replace pickets, re-fasten rails, rehang gates and fit new latches.
On a deck, the boards you walk on are ours: split, cupped or soft boards replaced with pressure-treated boards and the right screws. What holds the deck up is not: posts, beams, joists, stairs and railings are structural or life-safety work, and they go to a licensed contractor.

Can you replace a leaning fence post?
No. Posts hold the fence up, so a post is a licensed contractor’s job. Pickets and rails between the posts are ours.
My gate is on the pool fence. Can you fix the latch?
The owner looks at that one himself first. A pool-fence gate is a safety barrier, and he’ll tell you straight whether it’s ours.
