Website examples that turn work down.
Whole websites, built end to end for companies that do not exist. Each one opens on the document its customer keeps — and the line worth reading is always the one where nobody was sold anything.
The hero is a document, not a slogan
A roof condition report, a water report, a camera run sheet, a pre-trip log — the piece of paper the customer actually keeps. Most of them carry the refusal as a priced line at $0.00. A few say it in the shop’s own words instead. Every card below says which.
And none of them looks like the others
A field report, a paper notebook, a panel grid, an instrument cluster, a studio wall, a drawing sheet, a route log, a dispatch board, a camera run. Different layouts and different type, because a trade that gets the same page in a different color has been sold a template.
Every company below is invented — the name, the address and the job numbers on the paperwork. Each site says so in a strip across the top of every page. The telephone number is the exception: it is ours, so if you ring one of these shops to see what happens, you reach us.
The refusals, one per site.
Roofing
An overlay — a second layer of shingles over the old ones — declined at $0.00, because it hides a deck nobody has looked at.
On the roof condition report — Halyard Roofing, Apopka, FL. A company we invented.
A field report — dark slate, condensed headlines, a numbered index instead of cards.
Pressure washing
3,000 psi on a shingle roof — asked for and refused, because pressure strips off the granules, and the granules are the roof.
On the wash card — Kingfisher Exterior Cleaning, St. Petersburg, FL. A company we invented.
A wash card carrying 3,000 psi requested on a roof — and refused.
Plumbing & HVAC
"Just top the refrigerant up" — declined at $0.00, because a sealed system does not consume it and the same gas leaves by the same hole.
On the readings report — Copperfield Plumbing & Air, Tampa, FL. A company we invented.
A gauge cluster — instrument navy, readings set large in mono, a drawn manifold set.
Auto repair
The rear brakes — one line on the estimate reading $0.00, because they measured inside the manufacturer’s discard spec and nothing needed doing.
On the repair order — Cypress Line Auto Repair, Orlando, FL. A company we invented.
The mechanic's version, for a shop that fixes what it drives in.
Drain cleaning
A quarterly cabling plan — declined at $0.00, because four cablings a year is a subscription to a joint nobody has repaired.
On the camera run sheet — Benchmark Drain & Sewer, Casselberry, FL. A company we invented.
A camera run — soil-dark ground, a ruled footage rail read downward, and a drawn section through the front lawn.
Pool service & repair
A season of chlorine — not sold, and nothing added at all that visit, because stabilizer reading 78 ppm against a 30–50 range is why the chlorine keeps disappearing. Only replacing water fixes that.
On the water report — Sandhill Pool Service, Winter Park, FL. A company we invented.
A water report — stabilizer out of range, and nothing added to fix it.
Auto detailing
A second cutting pass on a roof reading 78 µm — declined at $0.00, because clear coat does not grow back.
On the paint report — Verity Detail Studio, Tampa, FL. A company we invented.
A studio — near-black, one pool of light, enormous space, stages instead of cards.
Tree service
Topping the oak — refused at $0.00, because ANSI A300 does not accept it as pruning and the tree never recovers from it.
On the arborist’s work order — Sable Ridge Tree Care, Sarasota, FL. A company we invented.
A field notebook — warm paper, an old-style serif, a botanical plate of a live oak.
Landscaping & lawn care
The fertilizer — marked NOT DONE on the card, with the reason, because a month with no fertilizer and a reason beats a month with fertilizer and an invoice.
On the yard card — Six Oaks Lawn & Landscape, Winter Garden, FL. A company we invented.
A yard card, with the fertilizer marked NOT DONE and why.
Garage door repair
Turning the force up so the door stops reversing — refused at $0.00, because the reversal is the safety feature working.
On the safety test ticket — Ironleaf Garage Doors, Sarasota, FL. A company we invented.
A panel grid — the whole layout is sectional-door panels, hard rectangles and seams.
RV, motorhome & trailer repair
Six new tires — not sold, $0.00, because the DOT date codes said they were under four years old and sound.
On the pre-trip log — Northbound RV & Trailer, Sarasota, FL. A company we invented.
A trip log — sand and ink, signage lettering, waypoint bands, an enamel-badge rig.
Collision & auto body
The cheaper part, turned down when it is the wrong part — the one refusal in the set that is argued in the shop’s own words instead of priced on a document.
On the shop, walked beat by beat — Beach Cities Collision, Miami, FL. A company we invented.
The original — a day at the shop walked beat by beat, with the moment a cheaper part gets turned down.
Screen enclosures & lanais
Heavier pet mesh on the roof panels — declined at $0.00, because the density the dog needs is wind load the frame was not engineered for.
On the cage inspection record — Latitude Screen & Rail, St. Petersburg, FL. A company we invented.
A drawing sheet — blueprint grid, a title block, a dimensioned cage elevation.
Mobile repair units
Paintless repair on a creased door — declined at $0.00, because the paint had already cracked and pushing it would have made the next repair bigger.
On the mobile work order — Curbside Mobile Repair, St. Petersburg, FL. A company we invented.
A dispatch board — a job rail and a detail pane, tabular mono, status as color.
Yours would be built the same way.
Not one of these is a template with the noun swapped, and neither is yours. Tell us the trade and we will build the page before you pay for anything.
